Will they hatch soon?!

The eggs will hatch soon, but it's difficult to say when exactly.

This year, the brooding process was a bit unusual. On 8 March, the nest contained three eggs. They were cold, so the incubation had not yet begun.

Mother falcon laid her first egg on 2 March. Normally, she lays an egg every two days and begins brooding when she has three of them. These eggs are incubated for the same number of days and hatch simultaneously. If there are four eggs, the last will hatch two days later than its brothers and/or sisters. She thus avoids a big age difference between the chicks. Because the eldest, which are more developed, could in fact claim the food of the smallest.

Because the three eggs were not yet being incubated, the female logically had to lay a fourth egg, even a fifth one like in 2010. But eventually she laid three eggs. But why did the brooding only begin on 8 March? There must be an explanation, but we don't know what it is.

We assume that she began incubating in the days that followed. If we take into account the shortest possible period (with the beginning of the brooding on 9 March and an incubation of 32 days), the chicks should hatch on 9 April. We'll see in the coming days. Pay close attention when mother and father falcon take each other's turn on the nest. That's the moment when we should see if the chicks are trying to puncture their eggs!
